Order of the Phoenix: movie spoilers within.

First of all, WHAT. I expected the movie to leave out a lot of things, but it changed several rather important plotlines and left other important plotlines out entirely. There were parts I liked, but overall I was just very confused by things. As a movie it flowed pretty well, but since I've read the book, most of the changes were glaring. The most emotional parts of the book were totally flat in the movie. This could have been so good, and instead it was just...eh. Even more eh than GF, if you can believe it. At least there was some emotion at Cedric's death and the following events.

• There were no shrieking portrait or elf heads in Grimmauld Place, nor was there any cleaning-up of the house.

• There was no angsty, lonely Sirius who perked up at Christmas.

• Sirius didn't give Harry a mirror. But he did give him the photo of the original Order members.

• Draco and Voldemort. They looked very pretty being all sneering and snarly in black suits.

• Thestrals. Looked just as I had imagined, though the fear of flying on a horse you couldn't see was left out. (For that matter, so was the MoM card reading "Harry Potter: Rescue Mission.")

• Luna. She was dead on, dreamy voice and all. I loved her in the movie as much as I did in the books, and I think several scenes will make the Harry/Luna shippers very happy.

• Umbridge. I know I said when her stills came out that she wasn't nearly toady enough, but as it turned out, she didn't need to be toady. She made me cringe. Her office was all pink and horrible, and the cats in the plates on the walls were always meowing. It was a great contrast to her despicable character.

• Hermione. I liked her so much more in this movie than in the last two. She was more properly bushy and nerdy, didn't move her eyebrows quite so much, and only tackled Harry once or twice. There were loads of really cute Ron/Hermione hints.

• Sirius's head in the fire. Remember how his face in GF was part of the coals? That was changed in OP. This time his face was part of the flames, which was just how I'd pictured it, and was also a lot cooler.

• Zacharias Smith was not there at all.

• No one caught the D.A. meeting at the Hog's Head-- instead, Umbridge overheard Harry talking about it on his way back into Hogwarts.

• The kiss. Was lovely. Cho's accent is so cute. But she wasn't flipping out and crying all over the place, even though Harry later said she was. Hmph.

• Cho's friend betraying the D.A? Didn't happen. Bet you can't guess who did betray them. ...it was Cho. *headdesk* Snape's Veritaserum was used up on Cho, and so she told Umbridge. As a result of that, Harry started ignoring her. Hermione's "SNEAK" curse didn't show up at all.

• The snake attack. Was bloodier than I though they'd dare make it. It was great. Arthur's recovery was skipped completely.

• BELLATRIX!! Bella Bella Bella OH she was amazing. She was mad and beautiful and just like I've always pictured her. sdjdshfkdhggfhfdghdjf! Her voice and outfit and character were just brilliant. I'd have cried if Bella hadn't been done right.

• Dumbledore's Fawkes-aided escape from the Minister. WAS SO COOL. There were some damn fine effects in this movie.

• Umbridge's bloody-hand quill. I am pretty sure Harry was the only one she used it on, but one scene has an entire classroom of students using those quills. Also, no essence of Murtlap. =/

• Grawp looked like a gigantic baby. He was kind of cute, but almost nothing about him from the book made it into the movie. I did laugh at Ron getting jealous that Grawp seemed to like Hermione so much. Trust me, Ron, she's not going to leave you for a baby giant.

• Young Marauders. There wasn't enough of them, either! James was a bastard. You barely see Remus, and you don't see Lily at all. I can't remember if Sirius or Peter were there, but it was only a split second if they were. Very sad.

• Neville/Luna hints. Very cute.

• Kreacher didn't trick Harry into thinking Sirius had gone to the MoM. Instead, Sirius just showed up there with the rest of the Order, for no reason at all (it seemed). So there was no "it's my fault he died!" from Harry.

• When Harry & co. go to the MoM, they skip the spinning room of doors with the scary rooms behind them. None of the group get injured until the meet the Death Eaters in the prophecy room.

• When Harry picks up the prophecy, Lucius doesn't startle them. Hermione says "Harry!"; they turn around and Lucius is there. He takes awhile to get around to talking.

• "Smash shelves" doesn't happen. Ginny casts Reducto and then all the shelves start falling. The smashing prophecies look awesome, though.

• Sirius had a couple of lines that made me want to cry. The first was back in the tapestry room-- "When this is over, we'll be a proper family." The second was in the MoM, after Harry casts some kind of spell on Lucius-- "Nice one, James!" AGH. *sobs*

• Perhaps most shockingly, Sirius didn't die from being knocked through the veil! Bellatrix Avada Kedavra'd him, which didn't even kill him instantly, but had him standing around for several seconds looking worried, before he sort of faded through the archway. He didn't even FALL. So there was no "is he really dead?" from Harry.

• Remus showed up about twice-- once at Grimmauld Place, and again at the end to hold onto Harry after Sirius died. That wasn't nearly enough Remus. :(

• Harry vs. Bellatrix. She kind of squeaks when he casts Crucio, and stays on the floor instead of getting up. She doesn't taunt him about not being able to mean Crucio-- instead, Voldemort starts talking to him. So there's no "eek!" moment after you think Harry's safe and then Voldemort pops up behind him, like there is in the book. D:

• Dumbledore vs. Voldemort. Dumbledore calls him Tom. The fight from the book is... not there at all. No moving statues, no Fawkes taking Avada Kedavra in the mouth. There is a fight, but it's fairly boring.

TEN DAYS!!

Yeah, in the book Umbridge only used the quill on Harry. I think it tied the DA together more with the fact that they all had to realize what Harry suffered etc. since they felt it too. It also let them add in that adorable/tear-jerker with the twins and the young Gryffindor that is crying where they console him about the hand.

Sirius was in the flashback, he was down in the left hand corner. Honestly, I wished they had done that entire bit of the book, because it showed you things and I wanted the "three ways to identify a werewolf" bit!

Harry did say (very close to the end while talking to Dumbles) that it was his fault that he died since he put himself in danger and Sirius came to protect him like a good adoptive father.

The falling globes of glass did look awesome. I remember thinking when I saw them high-tailing it out of there, "Wait, don't you know shield charms? Use them!"

Harry's face when Sirius said "Nice one, James!" I wanted to bawl right then and there.

It kind of looked like the curtains sucked him in.

WE NEED MORE REMUS.

I'll not lie. I giggled at Bellatrix's "I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK." song. I love him but that was just amusing.

The fight graphics were cool though. Harry looked like a tortured soul and cracked my up when he was writhing on the floor while fighting with Voldie. Wished they had animated fountain though. . .

This one comes randomly out of order, but I loved the dragon for the Weasley's prank! It was awesome, along with Harry's straight face in telling Umbridge in the woods, "I'm sorry Professor, I must not tell lies!"

Oh, is that what they were doing...? I couldn't figure it out. I was just going "wait what? that wasn't in the book omg what is going ON?" :D;; Thanks for clearing that up. It was cute, looking back on it.

Sirius was in the flashback, he was down in the left hand corner.

With the long hair? I could have sworn that was Remus. o_O Wasn't Snape's "WEREWOLVES WEREWOLVES WEREWOLVES!!" thing in PoA, though? When he had the DADA class while Remus was "sick"? It was part of the reason Hermione guessed.

Harry did say (very close to the end while talking to Dumbles) that it was his fault that he died since he put himself in danger and Sirius came to protect him like a good adoptive father.

Oh, I missed that. ^^; Speaking of that scene-- wasn't there, I don't know, a lot more yelling in the book...? Harry seemed awfully calm. I mean, that was SIRIUS. He flipped out over Cedric, whom he barely knew.

Harry's face when Sirius said "Nice one, James!" I wanted to bawl right then and there.

ksjadhjdsfgf I KNOOOW *whimper* I think that was one of the best parts of the movie. I felt like I'd been slapped, and I bet Harry did too. Was that even in the book? God, I need to just buy OotP so I can look things up.

I'll not lie. I giggled at Bellatrix's "I KILLED SIRIUS BLACK." song. I love him but that was just amusing.

So did I! XD; I kind of hate her, but at the same time she is so awesome.

YES. And "I must not tell lies!" was dead on for Harry's character, IMO. It sounded like it could have come straight from the books, especially considering his later snarking at Snape-- "There's no need to call me sir." XD

Agreed. I think it flowed very well for a movie, and it also felt more mature than the previous movies. But they left/changed so many things. D:

• I didn't expect them to include the cleaning-up in Grimmauld Place. Though I would've loved to see it, it wasn't really necessary.

• More importantly--NO REMUS/SIRIUS JOINT PRESENT. D: D: D: Not that I expected it, but still.

• Noticed that, too. I may not remember it correctly, but I believe the mirror's going to be rather important in Book 7.

• Especially Draco. ♥ There was a scene between him and Harry (right after they get off the Express, I think) that I absolutely loved. I squealed. :D

• I still didn't really like Hermione. Her eyebrows didn't move as much, but she was still too much girlpower!Hermione.

• SIRIUS'S HEAD. Big WTF moment for me there. I mean, it was definitely more like what I had in mind, but I kind of like consistency, you know?

• Zacharias Smith was there. They just... didn't give him a name. =\ In Hog's Head, he's the guy saying, "So he says. But where's the proof?" (Or something like that.)

• The kiss... was more than I expected. XD; I expected a cute, innocent kiss, because you know, it's a first kiss, but MAN. They really went for it. XD; Oh, my inner Dan fangirl weeps.

• Ron jealous of Grawp? Brilliant. :D

• sghrghislghirue YOUNG MARAUDERS. One of the most disappointing scenes. I only saw James and Snape, who both looked quite good, butbutbut. I WANTED TO SEE YOUNG SIRIUS looking all pretty and graceful AND REMUS AND LILY AND HELL, EVEN PETER. D:

• ...Neville/Luna hints? Did not see them. =o (Or maybe I just don't remember.)

• Sirius's lines made me want to cry, too. Those two lines... ohhhh. ♥

• Veil scene bothered me. Very much.

• It's been a while since I read the book, so I can't remember Dumbledore vs. Voldemort. But I liked the fight between the two, even though it was a bit short. Possessed!Harry was completely AWESOME, though.

Also--Levicorpus? NOT UNTIL THE SIXTH BOOK, WHUT. Dumbledore's talk with Harry after Sirius's death? SO SHORT. I really think they needed to make this longer; this was the scene that made me bawl so much while reading.

But yes. I really shouldn't have commented, since I have yet to make my own HP post. >>;

Oh, by the way--the quill? In the book, it was used on other people besides Harry. Namely, the twins. I remember Harry suggesting essence of Murtlap to them. ^___^.

Oh, that's right! I'd forgotten. She probably did use it on a lot of other students, then.

Noticed that, too. I may not remember it correctly, but I believe the mirror's going to be rather important in Book 7.

I can't remember seeing that, but if so, that's...going to be interesting, tying it into the movie. o_O

Especially Draco. ♥ There was a scene between him and Harry (right after they get off the Express, I think) that I absolutely loved. I squealed. :D

I SQUEALED TOO. :D:D Damn does he look good in a suit. MOAR SUIT!DRACO PLS.

SIRIUS'S HEAD. Big WTF moment for me there. I mean, it was definitely more like what I had in mind, but I kind of like consistency, you know?

Heh. I guess you could say (going totally by movie canon) that he used a different spell or something? I don't know, I was just oddly bothered by the freaky coal!head. :D;;

Zacharias Smith was there. They just... didn't give him a name. =\ In Hog's Head, he's the guy saying, "So he says. But where's the proof?" (Or something like that.)

...that was him? My bad. :D; He was a lot more obvious in the book; I guess I was expecting him to be obvious here, too.

The kiss... was more than I expected. XD; I expected a cute, innocent kiss, because you know, it's a first kiss, but MAN. They really went for it. XD; Oh, my inner Dan fangirl weeps.

HEE. And they've both said the most squee-worthy things about it-- Dan's said "it was a very comfortable experience" and Katie's rated him an 11 out of 10 and said it was lovely. XDD

Neville/Luna-- okay, I'm certain there was at least one other, but in the MoM Luna says "Good job, Neville!" then grabs his wrist/hand and pulls him away. IT WAS CUTE! :D;

Veil scene. BLERGH. It and the Marauders scene made me so sad. I was lookng forward to those. D:

Oh, I wasn't imagining Levicorpus being misplaced? I thought that one didn't show up until HBP, but I wasn't sure. Um. Luna's found the Potions book already, WHAT?

It was hinted in the book that the quill was used on Lee. Harry then recommended Murtlap essence to him, then he told the twins. You know, they should've maybe split the book into two movies. Or something, because Jesus it's long. I still need to see the movie; I want to see it in IMAX with 3D fighting at the end.

I wish they'd done it as two movies. Once you get into the long books (and I think OotP is the longest so far?), it gets really hard to cut without cutting too much, and I think OotP was definitely cut too much. The fun of the books lies in all the subplots and tiny details, but the movies have this laser-like focus on Harry. Haha, that fight at the end must be trippy in 3D. Let me know what it's like if you see it.

I just know I'm going to go through the book and find a ton of things and be pissed that they were left out now that I've seen it. :[ But there was some cool stuff, at least, and if they didn't manage to follow the book, at least it didn't flow too badly.

BELLA. *_* She was brilliant. And Luna, too, and Tonks and Kingsley (♥ for Kingsley, mm).

... And as much as I love Lucius, Sirius socking him was awesome. :D

I just wish they'd made it longer (hell, make it a miniseries! There should've been a movie for each task in GoF) so that they could've gotten more in. OotP was one of the better books, I thought.

I am going to fangirl Bella til the end of time, srsly. I wasn't sure what to think of Tonks since there wasn't very much of her, but the actress was really pretty and I liked her hair. XD Kingsley! *happy squirm*

Haha, YES. "Stay away from my godson! *WHAM*" That was great.

I actually really loved this one, for once. There are a bunch of things I would've killed to see in there, but.... oh, love.

The first big reaction I had was "OHGOD SIRIUS/REMUS" when I saw them in the kitchen right when Harry gets there. It looks kind of like Sirius has his arm around Remus... I dunno, maybe I'm reading too much into things. Again.

"Nice one, James!" nearly had me crying. Such a Sirius&James fangirl in any relationship, so that was... GUH.

Not enough Remus, not enough Sirius, not enough Marauders in general. Peh. :P And no young!Lily! D:

Suit!Draco is awesome. And Lucius is just awesome. "Now.... calm down" or whatever... giggling. And Sirius being all protective and punching Lucius. Win.

I really wanted the "three ways to identify a werewolf" thing too. Prongs wants more Marauder screentime! D<

I loved the Weasley twins so much in this movie. Seriously. All the little looks they give each other, and the comforting the little kid, and... oh god, the whole leaving scene. Yes.

Bella and Luna were amazing. I was iffy on both of their characters, but I really loved them. As soon as Luna opened her mouth, I was like "OHH SHE'S PERFECT :D" And Bella is perfectly insane, of course. Yay.

Ooh, yes! At least one of Remus's scenes was all shippy and lovely. :D

I'm reeeally confused. I was sure "three ways to identify a werewolf" was in PoA. I think I need to read OotP again. ^^;

I loved all the things you did, they just...weren't the scenes I was really really hoping for, I guess. ^^; The movies have never managed to leave out or change ALL my favourite scenes before... D:

From: [identity profile] youokayhoney.livejournal.com
Yes yes. :D I kind of had to keep from giggling there, because I don't think my parents would've quite gotten it. (When I manage to go with friends, though.... mwaha.) Actually, the "Who's Cedric? Your boyfriend?" line... that always makes me laugh too. Quietly, of course, sometimes, but..... mmm.

Nope, it was in the flashback scene in OotP. I've read that too many times. XD; I think I have it bookmarked, actually. o.o;;

Yeah... I see what you mean. PoA was my favorite book because of all the Marauder stuff, and I.... oh god. *shudders*

"Who's Cedric? Your boyfriend?"

I was so glad I went on my own, because BWAHAHAHA. Was that in the book? It totally sounded like something Draco would say. ...I need to just BUY THIS BOOK already. I'm missing 4 and 5 and it bugs me when I can't look things up. D:

Well, I figure they can't screw up HBP too badly. If they go their "all focus on Harry" route like always, they will HAVE to include large amounts of Draco, and I will be the happiest little fangirl. \0/
