Nightwish!

One of our group, MJ, had sprained her ankle and couldn't go, so it ended up just being me, Claire, Casey, and Jen. This was a little terrifying for me at first because I'd only met these people once before--MJ is the only one I know very well. But I calmed down once I got in Claire's car...even if she did speed and tailgate the whole way there, holy shit. She likes to go very, very fast. Kansas has many miles of very straight road. Bad combination, that. Anyway! We got there just fine, and...here's the concert, then. Nightwish played fewer songs that I knew than I was hoping for, but I haven't heard that much except from one or two albums, so. It was lovely to hear more.

Sonic Syndicate opened, and they were...decent. Not really music that I'd go out and buy, but I enjoyed them. They were a tad too screamy for my tastes, but I could hear actual words most of the time, so I liked them all right. (One of them looked like Brian Molko before I looked more closely, which was startling. XD; ) Also, their guitarist was a tiny girl with awesome hair and she was very cute. I didn't get any good pictures of her, so I'll try to find some from somebody else's.

Setlist is mostly complete except for a couple of songs I didn't know and couldn't hear the lyrics well. A lot of these, I hadn't even heard before, so I'm making my best guess based on the lyrics I could hear.

• Dark Chest of Wonders
• The Siren
• The Islander
• The Poet and the Pendulum (only part of it)
• Come Cover Me
• Sleeping Sun

Anette paused here to pull up her pants. "My pants are falling down," she said, "but maybe that's a little more information that I should tell you." (Crowd: "No it isn't!") "It's really hot in here--but that's the way I like it! I love that you're all singing. You're doing what I tell you to do--I like that." (Crowd: *goes nuts* and some people in the front started shaking their fingers like "naughty, naughty!" XD)

So then Anette said that she was sorry, but the next song would probably be their last--but she was leaving it in the hands of the crowd, and she would see what happened.

Then they launched into fucking "Nemo." Oh my god. I was so hoping they would play this, and...just. I screamed all the lyrics and started crying halfway through. This song got me through some bad times and I lost myself in it, it was absolutely wonderful.

After that, Nightwish waved goodbye and left the stage.

And the crowd started clapping. And screaming. And stomping. I didn't time it, but we made as much noise as possible for at least three or four minutes straight. It would die down a little as we caught our breath, and then we'd start up again.

And Nightwish came back out.

• Seven Days to the Wolves (nnnngh I had never heard this one before! But I am in love. Must buy.)
• Wishmaster (ruined by you-know-which Youtube video. I can't hear it without thinking "dentist! hard porn! Steven Seagull!" *dies*)

Anette--god, I love her--asked if we were tired yet. "NO!" we screamed. "Really?" she said. "I thought I'd have exhausted you all by now. That was my mission." ...she kept saying things like this and smirking. She knew exactly what double meanings we were getting out of it. XD; "I wish we could sing again for you. I want you all to go home and have...cute little dreams. But first--a little 'Angel' to sleep on."

Their last song was "Wish I Had An Angel." By this point I was dead on my feet, but I love that fucking song so I sang and jumped the whole way through and my ankles are killing me but it was so worth it. This show was incredible.

The crowd was a lot smaller than I'd been expecting--the venue was less than half the size of the Uptown Theater, I think. We couldn't get all the way up to the front, but we found a good spot in a sort of balcony that was like ten feet from the speakers and very close to the stage. It was a fantastic view. Only, the other people up there were being all stoic and not getting into it, so Claire and I had a two-person mosh pit for "Wish I Had an Angel." XD

I would just like to note that Emppu and Marco have the most incredible hair ever, while Emppu has the most incredible smile. ♥♥♥ He and Anette were touching and hugging quite a lot, and at one point they might have...waltzed or something? I don't know, but it was crazy cute. Emppu and Marco also knelt next to each other a couple of times to play guitar at each other, and at one point they were standing in the corner bumping hips while Anette sang. Oh, lovely Finnish boys. ♥ Tuomas is extraordinarily gorgeous, and he really got into the keyboard--leaning down with his head almost touching it, then throwing his head back, and...yeah. Hooray for his neck, nghk.

...did I mention how much I love Anette? She is so, so beautiful and she has an incredible voice. Yeah, she's different from Tarja, but that doesn't make her bad. I would say she's more in the alto-to-low-soprano range--I can actually sing along with Anette. I really liked her voice and her stage presence. She was so happy to be there and to see us having so much fun, and it showed through for the whole show. When she wasn't singing, she was dancing. And she never stopped smiling. She was wonderful. Sometimes she played air guitar, or air drums. ♥

So my throat is sore, my voice is dead, my ears are sore and ringing, and I will probably wake up tomorrow unable to move from the headbanging, horn-throwing, leaping around, etc. I don't fucking care. I will never forget this show.

Pictures tomorrow. Dead now.

KAT I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY I HAVE 726 WORDS OF THE SPENCER/BRENT + JON/BRENDON/RYAN FIC WRITTEN

[jon blinks. "i... the... the thing with ryan and brendon, you don't.... have a problem with that? i mean..."

spencer stares at him. "you're worried about that? jon, i love you, but you're crazy." jon blinks again. "seriously, don't worry about it. if you guys are happy, i'm happy. honestly." spencer waves a drumstick in jon's face. "but if you hurt ryan, i will break your legs. not that i think you will, but just so you know."

"do you give that warning to everyone, then?" jon says, looking a little less worried.

"of course not! pete's warning involved castration."]

AND 606 WORDS OF SEAN/TOM + BILL/TRAVIS THAT WAS GOING TO BE BILL/TOM WHEN I STARTED

[sean throws himself down on the couch and tom starts playing the messages. most of them are the normal well-wishes from various friends (which still make him smile ridiculous amounts, really) but then there's one, the newest message from about an hour ago, that just makes him stop. and then replay it. twice.

........uh, hey! it's... um, it's william. i, uh, just finished listening to the album? again? it's pretty amazing, man. ............ um, yeah! i.... yeah, uh, shit, just wanted to tell you that. um, bye.]

HOORAY!

Yeah, that's the reason I prefer the sardine-crowd to the balcony, because generally the balcony crowd is pretty static and I WANT TO JUMP AND SCREAM! >:O Glad you had fun!
